A Statewide Collaboration for the Betterment of Nebraska

About

Everything Ag in Nebraska

The Nebraska Strategic Ag Coalition’s mission is to support sustainable agriculture across the state by promoting Best Management Practices (BMPs) for soil health, water quality enhancement, and livestock management. The coalition connects farmers with essential resources, peer networks, and opportunities that support resilient, profitable farming. By emphasizing BMPs, the Coalition aims to boost soil and water health while empowering farmers with the tools needed to adopt environmentally sound practices.

A core part of the Coalition’s work is addressing emerging technologies and carbon management in agriculture. By helping farmers adopt these innovations, the coalition strives to enhance profitability through improved efficiency, productivity, and minimized environmental impact. Access to peer mentoring, cost-share program information, data on effective practices, and technical support is central to the Coalition’s approach, equipping farmers to make profitable and responsible choices that benefit both their operations and the environment.

Additionally, the Coalition serves as a statewide resource hub and connector, providing a comprehensive repository of information and fostering peer-to-peer collaboration. Through a searchable, filterable catalog of cost-share opportunities tailored by location, commodity, and practice type, farmers can find relevant support. The Coalition also facilitates connections to technical service providers and hosts events such as field days and conferences, creating a strong support network across Nebraska’s agricultural community. This collaborative effort is reinforced by the Resilient Soil and Water Quality Act (RSWQA), passed in 2022, which aims to improve Nebraska’s soil and water quality. Working closely with the Nebraska Department of Natural Resources (NeDNR) and other agencies, the Coalition ensures that producers have access to vital resources, educational materials, and financial support, building a foundation for sustainable, long-term success in Nebraska agriculture.

The Purposes of the Resilient Soils & Water Quality Act are to:

Initiate first steps to accelerate the use and scope of best practices for healthy soil management

Protect and improve soil and water quality throughout the state

Protect the public’s health and enhance agricultural production and profitability

Address soil health economics, resource stewardship, and managerial and environmental issues

Increase awareness, education, and promotion of healthy soil best practices through producer-to-producer, peer-to-peer, and mentoring relationships, networking, and sharing of technical information

Provide observational proof of healthy soil benefits through access to demonstration and research farms and data
